Curriculum
Mother's Day Out
The Mother's Day Out program uses a well rounded program of socialization, free expression, creative activities, storytelling, music and movement. These activities are developmentally geared to the young child's interests. The classes participate in unit theme activities. Bible stories are part of the daily routine.
Three Year Old Kindergarten
Three year old kindergarten uses the "Wee Learn" curriculum by Moorehead, and published by Lifeway. This curriculum meets basic skills and standards for three year olds. The curriculum uses creative avenues, such as music and movement, crafts, play, Bible stories and "circle time," to teach students.
Four Year Old Kindergarten
Frog Street Press is the curriculum used for four year old kindergarten. It is a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses a variety of early childhood skills. It is a phonics based program that uses songs and characters in a fun and creative way. Math concepts are taught through Frog Street Press Giggle games.
Five Year Old Kindergarten
The five year old kindergarten reading curriculum is Scott Foresman’s "Reading Street". This curriculum uses a literature based approach with a heavy phonics emphasis. Children learn to read by phonics and by reading real literature, many of which are award winning books. The Math curriculum is Math in My World by McGraw Hill. It is an activity based program that teaches meaning behind the math. Our K-5 program also chooses from a variety of unit themes which teach educational skills as well as life skills.
Other Learning Resources
Computer: The four year old children at Lakeside have an opportunity to participate in weekly computer classes. The children learn computer technology and the general use of computers. Math and language skills are enhanced through this medium.
Security
Lakeside has installed a state of the art Security System complete with cameras and magnetic locks on all doors entering the Preschool Department. Each family will be issued a security card for entrance into the facility when needed during regular school hours.
Carpool numbers are given during Orientation. When picking up your child, your carpool number will be matched to the child you are picking up.
