Music & Worship Ministries

Lakeside Baptist Church's Music and Worship Ministry is comprised of a broad range of individuals from children through senior adults. We maintain five distinct vocal ensembles: the Sanctuary Choir, the Preschool/Children's Choirs, an auditioned student ensemble Sound and Light, the senior adult choir New Life Singers, and an auditioned adult ensemble Heart's Desire. In addition, the Sanctuary Orchestra plays during the 10:30 worship service and for special programs. Lakeside also has two active drama teams for students and adults.

The Sanctuary Choir

This choir serves as co-worship leaders at our 10:30 Sunday morning worship service and provides the church with semi-annual presentations in partnership with the drama teams and orchestra. These services and presentations are intended to challenge and inspire Christians and serve as a tool for God’s Spirit to work in the lives of those who have not yet accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord.

The Sanctuary Choir rehearses on Wednesday nights beginning at 6:00 PM. Rehearsals are typically one and a half hours long and are held in the choir room on the second floor of the administration building (behind the choir loft in the Worship Center). These rehearsals are open to all that have a passion for leading the Lakeside family in worship through singing, reading Scripture, physical action, and service, and have a genuine, personal faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. A weekly rehearsal includes: preparing less-familiar congregational music for Sunday, practicing anthems for the next 4 to 6 weeks, preparing music for upcoming seasonal programs when appropirate, enjoying fellowship, and spending time in prayer. Children's programing is provided during these rehearsals.

The Sanctuary Orchestra

This ensemble is designed to support and lead worship for the Lakeside family, as well as participate with the Sanctuary Choir and drama teams in semi-annual presentations.

Rehearsals are held weekly in the orchestra room located on the second floor of the administration building (behind the choir loft in the Worship Center). These rehearsals begin at 6:30 PM and last approximately one hour. This group is made up of high-level amateur players and professional players of instruments in the string, brass, woodwind, and percussion families. Anyone interested in sharing their instrumental talents in a supporting role in worship is welcome to join us in rehearsal.

Worship Training for Preschool and Children

It is important to begin helping children learn the joy of worshiping at an early age. It is also important to teach them how to use all of their body in worship--singing, clapping, speaking, hugging, etc.--and how to worship with others. Children who participate in Lakeside's Worship Training for Preschool and Children develop musical skills like singing, listening, and playing instruments, as well as reading and creating music as they progress from one choir to the next. Though singing is important, our primary concern is that each child will come to understand and accept God's salvation and the life He offers us in Christ.

Worship Training classes are divided by age to provide the most meaningful experience for each child. Each class meets weekly with with the desire to see children grow in their understanding of worshiping and loving God. There are excellent directors and workers that love the Lord and helping each child, which makes this growing experience one the children will enjoy and remember. Each class has a curriculum designed to help children grow as worshipers. As members of this group, the children soon discover that each person has a unique and special gift they can use as worshipers. That gift is the voice and body we each must use to praise and worship Him. It is our desire to help each child "find" his or her singing voice and other physical abilities, and learn to use these to worship the Lord.

Sound+Light

Sound+Light is an auditioned vocal ensemble for high school students. This group combines contemporary Christian music and other media elements with an evangelistic message. The purpose of Sound+Light is to minister to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those seeking to know more of  Jesus Christ by providing a way believers can come into His courts with praise and song. Our goal is that students will grow in their abilities to serve in the Body of Christ and communicate the Gospel in the world around them. Rehearsal time is not only a time to practice and learn new music but also a time to praise and worship Jesus Christ. The students in Sound+Light commit themselves to a life of service and leadership in a world that often makes this goal challenging. Rehearsals are Sunday afternoon from 6:00-7:30 PM in the choir room.

The New Life Singers

As our senior adult choir stands in the loft and begins to sing, the people to whom they are singing realize they are in for a blessing. This group, known as the New Life Singers, can really sing and they enjoy doing it! In 1984 a choir was organized from the then Fifty-Plus group. Mr. Gordon Graham became director and Mrs. Terry Patko became pianist of a 30 member Senior Adult Choir known as The New Life Singers. Both Mr. Graham and Mrs. Patko have faithfully served in this volunteer minstry for several years. Currently the New Life Singers are under the direction of Chris Diffey and are still accompanied by their charter accompanist, Mrs. Patko.  This group is one you do not want to miss an opportunity to hear. The New Life Singers has brought joy to our Lakeside family and numerous other church families for 23 years. They participate in the Alabama Senior Adult Choir Festival annually and also sing in various senior living center and community centers. Any senior adult that enjoys singing Southern Gospel Music is welcome to join this choir, which rehearses after Labor Day until Memorial Day in Lakeside's Chapel on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-5:00 PM.
