Senior Adult Ministries

"Retired" is not a word that describes this group of fun loving Christian seniors. This is a family that laughs together, cries together, learns and serves together. Rather than sitting back expecting to be served, we reach out and serve other people. A man once said "you can't buy experience." We want to invest our "experience" in the lives of other people and enjoy doing it.

Someone recently asked, what is a senior adult? After much discussion we determined it is much more than an age bracket. It is a season of life! A time that we know how to pick our battles, know what is important when all is said and done, know how to enjoy a beautiful day, and how to enjoy the company of a friend, being able to laugh at ourselves, and a time to enjoy the life that God has given and realizing that He is in control.

Many relate our Senior Adult Ministry with travel and this we do. We have been to Branson, Missouri, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nashville, Tennessee, Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a Praise Fest, as well as Billy Graham's training center in Asheville, North Carolina. These are only a sampling of the many places we have experienced. We normally have two overnight trips per year, and monthly day trips. The purpose of this travel is to build fellowship and see some of God's beautiful creation. There is so much more to the Senior Adult Ministry than just travel and enjoyment. We have seniors active in many of the church wide ministries of Lakeside. They teach classes, sing in both the Senior Adult choir as well as the sanctuary choir, work in Vacation Bible School, keep in contact with Homebound, support the youth ministry, and serve as deacons and church leaders. Again, these are only a few examples of our active lifestyles.

Homebound Nursing Home Visitation

The homebound ministry was beginning in 1987 by Rutland and McCulley to visit nursing home patients who lacked visitors. Today, we have 12 on the homebound ministry team plus two Sunday school classes who help visit each month.  The team takes church literature to those able to read, small gifts each month, flowers from the sanctuary after Sunday services, plus delivers Wednesday evening meals to a small group of individuals. The ministry is continuing to grow with those involved saying they receive much more than they give.  If you would like to be a part of this ministry, contact the church office for more information. Lending A Helping Hand

Senior's are very important to our church family especially Vacation Bible School. For several years, we have organized traffic control, registration, childcare, teacher's snacks, and some serve as teachers. Without this help, we could not minister to the hundreds of kids who attend Lakeside's Vacation Bible School every summer. This commitment by our seniors is fantastic.  It truly shows their commitment to spreading the Love of Jesus.
