Student Ministry

The Student Ministry at Lakeside Baptist Church includes all students in 7th -12th grades. Our student ministry has over 100 active students from a number of Over the Mountain Schools including Briarwood, Chelsea, Hoover, Hope Christian, Oak Mountain, Pelham, Shades Mountain Christian, Shades Valley, and Vestavia Hills. With the variety of schools, Lakeside has a wonderfully diverse student ministry where students are encouraged to build relationships across school and social boundaries. If you are looking for a place to make new friendships, serve others, and grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ, we would appreciate the opportunity to get to know you. At the heart of what we do is our mission: “We exist to lead students to a life-changing encounter and a life long relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Lakeside Baptist Student Ministry has a strong commitment to local missions and ministry in Birmingham . Since the fall of 2003, Lakeside Students have completed over 1500 man hours in local missions and ministry. Each month we work with a local missions/ministry project or organization. We have regular involvement with Greater Birmingham Ministries and Habitat for Humanity, along with periodic involvement in work with senior adults in the community. If you would like to be involved in a missions service project, please contact us for our next work day. Whether you want to get to know other teenagers, serve God through missions, or just need school community service credit, there are opportunities for you at Lakeside.

Youth Missions Banquet

On Sunday night, March 28th, we will have our annual youth-led missions banquet and fundraiser for the youth ministry.  This will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center.  This night will help support a seven month stretch of ministry and missions involvement.  All church members and contributers are invited to attend.  The youth will serve the meal, provide the program, and share testimonies and talents.

The hope of this fundraiser is three-fold: to encourage the youth to be more involved in missions, to involve more people in the church in the youth ministry, and to raise money from within the church to support our youth. Last year we had great success with our fundraiser, and we hope to duplicate the effort again this year!

Reaching Out To Others

World Changers

World Changers is a Southern Baptist Mission organization for youth that does mission work all over the world. Each year the Lakeside High School Ministry participates in a project. During the past four years we have been to Stilwell, OK , Franklin, NC , Youngstown, OH, Nikiski, AK and Cheyenne, WY. At World Changers, teenagers from all around the country meet to do local evangelism, low income home repair, sports camps, and other ministry. In addition to our project in Alaska , the Lakeside Student Ministry supports all World Changer endeavors.

Habitat For Humanity

Habit for Humanity works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life in an effort to develop and grow communities which are home to people in need. Such is accomplished by building and renovating house to provide quality, affordable living spaces so that everyone can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends. Our goal is to introduce students into this life changing experience by participating in project around the Birmingham area various times throughout the year. In addition, fund raising held each spring is based partially on the number of community service hours worked by students in our ministry. The Habit organization receives more than 1,700 requests for assistance each year.  Through community volunteers, the Greater Birmingham chapter has been able to complete up to 30 new houses a year with more than 267 to date. We see this ministry as a valuable benefit to our community.  It not only afford those less fortunate an opportunity to live in quality housing, but also affords the time to build one-on-one relations with others who may not know Jesus. We invite you to put on your blue jeans and join us and we reach out to help those around Birmingham.

Our next workday is April 17th.  Please make plans to come!
